What is microfibre?
Microfibre is a manufactured type of fabric, most commonly made by combining polyester and polyamide. Textile manufacturers produce each fabric separately, then combine them using heat. Polyester has a high textile strength, and provides the structure, while Polyamide is less dense and provides the bulk. Think polyester for toughness, polyamide for absorption.
How do microfibre towels differ from a standard cotton bath towel?
Cotton bath towels are made from natural cotton fibres, which are breathable, durable and feel soft against the skin. They tend to be quite a bit more bulky than microfibre. Microfibre towels are made from synthetic materials, mostly polyester and polyamide, which have extremely small fibres – as much as 1/100th the diameter of a human hair, and about 1/3rd the diameter of cotton. This allows them to be extremely absorbent (they can hold up to 7x its weight in water), durable, hypoallergenic, pack down to a fraction of the size of cotton towels and are entirely sand free due to their tight construction.
Are your towels environmentally-friendly?
Yes, to the best of our ability!
Our oversized beach towels are made from approximately 22 recycled plastic bottles, and our standard/youth sized towels are made from approximately 13 plastic bottles.
We digitally print our towels with environmentally friendly dyes. Compared with traditional printing methods, digital printing is more green.
Our hangtags are made from an eco-friendly material and our mailers are 100% compostible.
Our manufacturer is Scope Certified by Control Unions Certifications B.V. which is a Global Recycled Standard's designation. They are FSC and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified as well, so you know the materials are responsibly sourced and don't use any harmful substances.
What are the benefits to owning a microfibre towel?
Microfibre towels have many benefits – they are more durable than cotton, able to be washed thousands of times before the microfibre starts to wear out. They are dramatically more absorbent, do not shed lint and are hypoallergenic.
Microfibre towels are also getting a lot of credit for being easier on your hair. Standard cotton towels rough texture can cause more damage to wet hair when your hair is at its most vulnerable stage. Microfibre reduces snags, breakage, friction and frizz because of its small fibres and tight construction. If you want to be more gentle to your hair, try replacing cotton with microfibre.
What size do you recommend buying?
That depends on your needs.
Adults often prefer the oversized towel. It wraps around your body when you are seeking refuge from the sun or wind after your swim, offers a lot of sand free space on the beach, and still packs down into a small, travel sized pouch.
We would recommend the standard/youth sized towel as an oversized youth towel, or as a small adult towel. Perhaps to be used in the gym or to keep in a sport bag etc. At about the size of a regular bath towel, it packs down even smaller with all the same attributes as the oversized on a smaller scale.
How do I care for my microfibre towel?
1. Machine wash separately before first use.
2. Always wash with cold water, using mild detergent.
3. Try to only wash your microfibre towel with other microfibre. If you must mix loads, only wash with other non-lifting fabrics.
4. Air drying is recommended. If a dryer is required, use a delicate setting.
5. Do not store wet. Air dry your towel before putting it away in its mesh bag.
